Retirement planning takes time, so it’s important to begin preparing at least a year in advance. Start by reviewing your Electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF) to ensure your records are accurate, request annuity estimates, and meet with your agency’s HR benefits specialist to help make the transition as smooth as possible.

- Familiarizing yourself with the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) benefits
- Finalizing your service credits
- Adjusting your Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) contributions
- Updating beneficiaries
- Making decisions about your Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) and Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) coverage
